Aromatherapist

Money & Outlook

Insider Info

Sylla Sheppard-Hanger is the founder and director of an aromatherapy institute. According to Sheppard-Hanger, aromatherapy is one of the hottest areas of complementary medicine. Some people look for a relaxing treatment to complement medical treatment for diseases like cancer. "Aromatherapy is the real buzzword," says Sheppard-Hanger.

Aromatherapists are usually paid in one of two ways: on a per-treatment basis or on an hourly basis. "The majority would probably be earning a middle-income figure...unless they were in a high-end [area], like New York City," says Sheppard-Hanger. Middle-income, she says, hovers around $40,000 to $50,000.

Earnings and employment information from the U.S. Department of Labor is not available for this field at this time.
