Insider Info

Additional Information

Since aromatherapy is not a regulated field, there isn't a standard educational path. However, many people in the field are pushing for regulation, which will ensure a minimum standard curriculum for aromatherapy colleges. It will also pave the way towards licensing for aromatherapists.

Some people choose to get a degree in physical therapy, then receive further education and training in aromatherapy.

In 2000, the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) instituted a national aromatherapy examination. It is endorsed by NAHA, though it isn't a form of official certification.

As well, there are a number of colleges that offer aromatherapy courses -- usually in the continuing education department. There are also private training institutions in several locations across the country.

However, when seeking education in an unregulated field, students should research the schools thoroughly and seek the most reputable instructors and institutions.
