NanoExplorers: A High School Summer STEM Academy

Fall 2024 Grades: 9-12
Residential
NanoExplorers: A High School Summer Science Academy, a 10-day
residential STEM academy at Cameron University will be scheduled
for June 16-21 and 23-28, 2024. The academy will feature
participation by 24 high school students who will be highly
motivated and talented high school students who reside in Oklahoma.
Students will engage in hands-on activities in imaging and
manipulating nanostructures, both "top down" and "bottom up"
approaches to making nanostructures, and devices based on
nanotechnology. The activities will be designed to introduce the
concept of nanotechnology and will include applications in both
chemistry and physics as well as information about career
opportunities related to nanotechnology.

The Human Water Cycle

Do you know where your water comes from or where it goes when
you flush? In the Human Water Cycle Summer STEM Academy, we will
dive into the natural water cycle and explore the human tributary.
On the way, we will visit water sources and treatment plants, learn
from industry experts, collect water samples, conduct wet labs, fly
drones, and tackle real-world water challenges. Students entering
grades 9-12 have the chance to explore where their water comes
from, who handles it, how it gets to their homes, and what happens
when it is flushed away.

Camp Biomed: A Glowing Overview

What happens when you cross a jellyfish with bacteria? Find out
a Camp Biomed, a STEM-based Summer Academy held at NSU's Broken
Arrow campus from June 24-28, 2024. Participants will learn about
microbiology and molecular biology and how these sciences overlap
by creating bioluminescent bacterium through cutting-edge
experiments. We will also tour different facilities in Tulsa to
learn about the latest science investigations. Participants will
understand the science that drives experiments, learn to interpret
the outcomes, and, most importantly, have lots of fun! Students can
be dropped off between 8:45-9:00 a.m. and picked up between
4:00-4:15 p.m.

DroneXperience Summer Academy

(NSU) is launching the DroneXperience (DroneX) Summer Academy
from July 22-26, 2024, in Tahlequah, Okla., in response to the
growing drone industry. This hands-on program offers 8th-12th grade
students the chance to construct and pilot their own drones while
exploring exciting STEM career possibilities. DroneX aims to become
a hub for learning, research and innovation in Unmanned Aircraft
Systems (UAS), or drones. The academy is free and inclusive,
welcoming students from diverse backgrounds and economic
households, including those from public, private, and homeschool
settings. The program runs for five days, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m., with flexible dropoff and pickup options to accommodate
participants and their families.

Get Green for Blue: Outdoor STEM Investigations Connecting
Water to You!

Put on your waders, grab your net, and let's catch those
critters! Working in teams, you will learn about water quality
through collecting data, analyzing the health of water bodies, and
determining possible solutions to water quality problems. This STEM
Summer Academy program is funded by the Oklahoma State Regents for
Higher Education and is open to students entering the 8th through
10th grades. The timeframe is from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but
accommodations will be made for those who need different dropoff
and/or pickup times. Come to Northeastern State University in
Broken Arrow June 24-28, 2024 (Monday through Friday) and be a part
of this fun, activity-based STEM adventure!

Robotics for Young Scientists and Engineers

The Summer Academy at Northeastern
State University (NSU) - Tahlequah aims to encourage students in
Oklahoma into STEM studies to become the next generation of
scientists and engineers. Our academy topic is Robotics. It is a
multidisciplinary field with the intersection of mechanics,
electronics, computing and mechatronics to create simple and smart
systems to benefit society. It aligns with the curriculum in
mechanical engineering and physics programs in college. Students
will design, build and test a robotic vehicle to collect, pick up,
move and organize objects (Learn by Doing), and tour the
FlightSafety Simulation at Broken Arrow to further make community
connections with higher education experience and industry.
The Academy is free and inclusive,
welcoming students from diverse backgrounds, including public,
private and homeschool settings. It will be held at NSU, Tahlequah
campus, Science Building (address: 611 N. Grand Ave., Tahlequah, OK
74464). It spans five days, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with
flexible dropoff and pickup options.

Renewable Energy - The Future is Here - Learning & Exploring
Today will engage students in hands-on learning with experts in
higher education and professionals in the field of renewable
energy. Students will get an inside view of an operating nacelle,
experience with simulators and a climbing tower, and see an
operational wind turbine and solar field. Students will learn about
the generation of electricity, get an introduction to electronics
and robotics, and have hands-on experiences with the Renewable
Energy Trainer, a training device that includes power generation,
micro-inverter, storage and renewable energy technology.

CHAMPS - Careers in Health and Medical Professions

you will do at CHAMPS: Learn about the human body using a 3D table
that shows you parts of the body like a beating heart. Practice
intubation, which is inserting a tube into someone's airway to help

do chest compressions and rescue breaths on a mannequin. Deliver a
baby in a simulated environment. Learn about caring for a child
with an AI (computer) pediatric simulator that can act like a real
child. Experience virtual reality in an anesthesia room and learn
how drugs can affect the brain and body. Test your balance, fitness
and brain health using interactive devices that measure how well

Lights, Camera, Action! A Digital Cinema Production Summer

professional, and collaborative environment? Come with us on a fun,
cinematic journey! From pre-production and photography through

aspects in film production, it is an exciting art and a science.

UCO Explore Engineering Summer Academy

The School of Engineering at UCO will offer the "UCO Explore
Engineering Summer Academy," two separate, 5-day non-residential
sessions of hands-on activities and science projects. The academy
will be geared toward students who will be entering grades 8
through 10 in the next school year. The main objectives are
nurturing participants' critical thinking skills, promoting
diversity and constructive team climate while stimulating
creativity and imagination. Attendees will work in teams to design,
build, test, and improve upon their projects to compete with others
in a series of design projects in fields of aerodynamics, steam
power, 3D printing, structural integrity, and mechatronics. UCO
engineering students will guide each team, while faculty members
serve as instructors.
