Making College More Affordable

Homeless/Unaccompanied Youth

Students experiencing homelessness and/or who are unaccompanied may qualify for additional financial aid. If you have further questions, please contact the financial aid office at the career technology center, college, or university you're planning to attend.

What happens when I fill out the FAFSA?

On the FAFSA, students are asked if since July 1, they have been homeless or self-supporting and at risk of being homeless.

If the student answers yes, they'll then be asked if any of the following made the determination that the student was homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

  • Director or designee of an emergency or transitional shelter, street outreach program, or other program serving those experiencing homelessness
  • The student's high school or school district homeless liaison or designee
  • Director or designee of a project supported by a federal TRIO or GEAR UP program grant
  • Financial aid administrator

Then, the student will complete the remainder of the FAFSA.
