Knowing how to read and schedule work shifts, production schedules and manuals is big part of being a production supervisor, says supervisor Tony Buddo.

You're a manager, which means you are doing a million things at once. You need to know how to read a work order so that you can schedule the production times.

You received three work orders in one day. You need to get them arranged in order of priority. You need to consider such things as:

  • The amount of time and workers needed to complete the jobs
  • Whether you have all the materials on hand or if you need to order materials
  • The client's needs in terms of time

Decide which order should be done first, and whether you'll need to schedule overtime on the shop floor to complete them.
