According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website, customs and border protection officers must have a bachelor's degree in any field.

They could also have three years general experience in a field that shows they can work with people and understand a body of facts.

U.S. customs and border protection officers receive 15 weeks of paid training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Georgia. Those applying for work in Puerto Rico, Miami or along the southwest border must either pass a Spanish language proficiency test or take an additional six weeks of training.
