Real-Life Decision Making

Flight navigators must be decisive, no question about it. They must know how to react to changing circumstances, and do it fast.

And a flight navigator has little room for error. One wrong decision can create a situation that may end with major loss of equipment and life.

You are a flight navigator on a plane that relays command signals to submarines in the Pacific Ocean. They depend on your plane in case they have to launch an attack.

Your plane is returning from a mission along the West Coast and is now heading towards Hawaii. And about halfway through the flight, the main navigation device gives out.

The pilot asks your opinion on what to do next. "Should we turn around, or should we continue towards Hawaii?" The plane has enough fuel for either option, but in less than 10 minutes it will reach the point where it can no longer return to the West Coast. It would have to continue towards Hawaii, which is not easy to find without any major navigation aids.

What do you do?
