Insider Info

Additional Information

No training or educational programs are specific to tutors and there are no compulsory certification requirements. Tutors may range from high school students to professionals with PhDs.

Some colleges and universities have tutor training programs, but they are non-credit and are available generally to people who are planning to work as tutors within that particular institution.

However, if you want to specialize in a specific subject, it's best to take at least a bachelor's degree in that field. Or you could enroll in an education program to provide you with a general foundation for your career.

The National Tutoring Association has a voluntary certification program. Contact them for details.
