Additional Information

A typical education pathway for librarians involves first getting an undergraduate degree. Often, degrees are in history or English. Librarians also need a master's degree accredited by the American Library Association.

Shari Townsend was trained as a paralegal and found work at a company that has a large component of legal documents, cases and other material available in its database. But she has had to learn the work of a copyright coordinator by experience.

"A lot of the stuff that I do in my job now I learned by taking courses, reading books and networking with people who do the same sort of thing," she says.
