What To Learn

Insider Info

Additional Information

Most deminers have a background in the military, where they learn the skills necessary to work as a deminer. Some deminers without military backgrounds have learned from other deminers who are willing to teach them.

If you are considering a career in demining, a background in mathematics and communications is essential.

"Do it while you are young to travel to as many places as possible to work," suggests deminer Sam Sammut. "In doing that, one gets a large variety of experience and a name that will become networked considerably."

"To become involved in mine action, you need to be committed to the movement, be willing to work hard, be a team player and be willing to be held accountable," says Jane Brouillette. She is a deminer. "The field of demining is making a big difference in people's lives."
