Real-Life Communication

You are a sports turf management consultant. Your secretary informs you that a prospective client called and wants you to tell them how they can ensure that their football field is safe.

Before answering this question, you will need to do some research. You need to find out, for instance, why the safety of the field is being questioned. To do that, you will need to inspect the field and make recommendations, keeping in mind the time and budgetary constraints your client is under.

Communication with the client is important to make sure the client is satisfied with the end results, the time frame and the budget. You must offer him a proposal for how long your recommendations would take to do and how much they would cost.

Golf superintendent Ron Hume manages an 18-hole golf course. "Generally speaking, 70 percent of the people interaction is good, pleasurable and positive, while the remaining 30 percent is dealing with difficult communication issues such as non-performing subordinates or disgruntled clientele."

Write a letter to your prospective client asking for the information you need. Don't forget to explain why you need it.
