The American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ASET) is currently pushing to have a two-year associate's degree mandatory for future entrants in the field.

Courses in science are a must, says William Riordan, chief technologist in the Neurophysiology Laboratory at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York.

Also important are reading and writing skills, and a basic understanding of the human anatomy.
