You are a school librarian. The principal has some good news. The school will buy 4,000 extra books. But there is a problem. The library does not have enough room to hold those books.

But there is a small rectangular room right beside the library. It is 40 feet wide and 18 feet long. Is it large enough to hold those new books?

The key to solving this solution is to visualize it through a diagram. Here some facts you need to know first.

A library bookstack is 8 feet long, 2 feet wide and has 5 rows. Each row can hold about 100 books. So a single bookstack can hold 500 books.

Bookstacks must be 4 feet away from nearby walls. Rows of bookstacks must be 4 feet apart also.

How many bookstacks will you need to hold the new books? And will they fit in the room? Draw a diagram to help you figure it out.
