Real-Life Decision Making

You are a school librarian. Five years ago, your school spent a lot of money to automate its collection. Computers now keep track of who takes what out of the library. But the upgrade is incomplete.

You need two barcode scanners. They cost $800. So you approach the principal and ask for money.

The principal says there is only enough money for one scanner. There might be money for a second one next year, but no guarantees.

You go back to your budget. You find that you can afford a second scanner if you spend less money on new non-fiction books.

What do you do?
