Sending your client to the group works wonders for a while. After the first month, though, your client relapses into a state of manic depression. Apparently, the people moderating the group were stressing the benefits of losing weight rather than letting her focus on her self-worth.

"Support groups are a double-edged sword," says Patricia Dewenter. "Yes, they can help, but they also are a breeding ground of learning new ways to keep weight down."

Your intentions were pure but your judgment was somewhat off. Better get your client back into the one-on-one situation.
