Real-Life Communication

You are a self-employed motorcycle racetrack designer. You have been asked to design a racetrack for a client. It is a small track, not a big NASCAR one, and the track owner does not have a big budget to spend. He is willing to spend about $2 million, which is the average cost of a small racetrack.

You have a reputation for designing for safety. Over the course of your career, you have seen too many young riders get hurt or even killed because of unsafe tracks. At one of your previous jobs, you worked on a track where four serious accidents had occurred in the course of one year. After incorporating your safety features, there have been no serious accidents in the 18 months since you completed the project.

But now you have a problem. To keep the budget under $2 million, you will have to leave out some important safety features. It costs a lot of money to incorporate features that will reduce the number of accidents. You have told the owner about the need for safety features, but he did not pay much attention. He appeared distracted and busy and brushed you off.

Now you must communicate with him again and make sure that he understands the importance of safety features. You decide to write him a letter outlining your key points.

Write your letter now.
