Real-Life Decision Making

You are producing a CD for a new young band. As a music producer who has worked with a lot of bands, you recognize promise and potential.

You have been watching this group play the club circuit for a few months now. More importantly, you have been watching the reaction of their audience. You have seen how popular they can be.

You make a deal with the band. They have hired you to produce their record and will give you a percentage of their first year's sales.

The band is now ready to record. You need to decide what kind of tape you should record them on.

Music producer Bruce Levens says he always has to decide whether to use digital or analog tape. Digital tape is cheaper, but analog tape produces better quality sound.

You have already spent more on recording time than you had budgeted. Remember that this band has not made a CD before -- you don't know how successful they'll be. You have to balance the costs against the likelihood of success.

What do you do?
