Real-Life Math
For the past few months, you have been working on a website for
Lonnie LaBonza Enterprises. In two weeks, you have built an attractive and
practical web page for the company.
However, you are not the greatest
writer. Rather than write the text for the pages, you have decided to contract
the work out to a freelance writer. Luckily, you have a friend who is willing
to do it for 75 percent of her normal rate of $29.99 per page
"Math
skills are important in almost any career, but in this one as well, because
you're dealing with pixels and screen measurements and all those sorts of
numbers," says web designer Oai Truong.
"There are web
standards out there so basically if you had no math skills you could just
do the research and find the answer instead of trying to figure it out," Truong
says. "So, it's not crucial, but if you're doing more advanced programming
for databases and those sorts of things, then math skills are important.".
All
told, there are 6 pages to write copy for. If your friend has agreed to work
for 75 percent of her normal rate of $29.99 per page, how much will you owe
her when the job is done?
