Photostylist

Real-Life Communication

Many photostylists get major contracts for their work by presenting proposals of what they will do. A fashion designer may ask stylists to present ideas on how to best show off their new fall line, for instance.

Then the designer chooses the stylist whose idea is the most provocative or best fits their vision of their work.

You are a photostylist. You have been invited to submit a proposal for a major contract. You would be helping to create a mail-order catalog for a company that makes gadgets for use around the home.

You have the current catalog and it's pretty standard. The gadgets are shown against blue and green backgrounds. There are brief descriptions of how each item can be used to make life easier. There are ice cube holders, dust-attracting rags, mousetraps and no-spill dog and cat bowls.

You give it some thought and decide to submit a proposal. You'll have 300 words to get your idea across. Your proposal will also include samples of your work and a copy of your resume. Focus only on how you'd make this catalog really click.
