Real-Life Math

Today's personal training clients have many needs. That can mean creating a customized plan for each client. To create customized plans, personal trainers (PTs) may have to use math skills.

For example, a client may be having trouble sticking to the frequency and speed of an exercise because of knee pain. The client has an assessment of knee strength.

Based on the results, you recommend that they increase the repetitions of a particular exercise by 25 percent while decreasing the speed of their running by 10 percent. They should do this for the next three weeks.

If they are currently doing the exercise 15 times, how many times should they do the exercise for the next three weeks?

If they are running 6 miles an hour now, at what speed should they be running for the next three weeks?
