One-Day Menu for a Preschool Child

Breakfast -- 7 a.m.

  • 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal
  • 1 slice toast with a small teaspoon of jelly
  • 1 cup milk

Mid-morning snack -- 10 a.m.

  • 1/2 small apple, sliced
  • 1/2 oz. cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk

Lunch -- 12 p.m.

  • 1/2 cup vegetable soup
  • 4 crackers
  • 1 celery stick filled with 1/2 teaspoon peanut butter
  • 3/4 cup fruit juice

Afternoon snack -- 2 p.m.

  • 1 small muffin
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup milk

Dinner -- 5 p.m.

  • 2 oz. chicken
  • 1/2 cup green beans
  • 1/2 cup pasta noodles with small pat of margarine
  • 1 roll
  • 1 cup milk

Totals for the day:

Breads, cereals: six servings
Vegetables: three servings
Fruit: three servings
Protein: two servings
Milk, yogurt,and cheese: four servings
Fats and oils: two small servings
