Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You tell him the camera is beyond repair and that you don't recommend fixing it.

This is the real-life decision Jennifer Elder, a camera repairer, would make. "You have to be careful with customers and choose your words carefully," says Elder.

"Sometimes they will bring in a camera that is beyond any economical reason to fix. Still, they don't want to hear that. You have to explain the situation."

You speak kindly and show the customer the extensive damage to his camera. You explain why it doesn't make sense to try to save it.

After a few retorts, the man begins to see what you are saying about the state of his camera. He asks for your help in picking out a camera that he can use as a replacement.
