Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

Keep your first job and turn down the music festival offer.

As exciting as the offer to perform at one of the largest music festivals in the country is, you simply cannot bring yourself to cancel your gig at the fundraiser. You will be one of the major acts there and you know that your fans are looking forward to your performance.

On top of that, you have performed every year at this fundraiser for the last three years. You feel a kind of loyalty to that organization. You also sense that your fans will be crushed if you cancel after having confirmed.

"It's sometimes hard to turn down a gig in some exotic country and stay home to do a local job," says Sarah Morrison. You call the music festival's in-house promoter to let her know that, due to a prior commitment, you will not be able to perform. She is understanding and lets you know that they will be happy to keep you in mind for next year's festival.

"My rule of thumb is to honor my first commitment," she says. Morrison adds that this is because a singer's business is only as good as their name.
