Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution
You have the plane circle around while you psych him
up.
This is the real-life decision made by skydiving instructor Sheldon Rice.
He's only had two students who weren't ready to jump at first. However,
he's never had a student who didn't jump on the second pass, after
he has motivated them.
"All I had to do was a simple go-around, where we just flew around in a
big circle back to the spot where we drop them off, and just take the time
to get them pumped and get them stoked," Rice says.
For some people, breathing exercises help them get ready. Many just need
to be told they'll do fine. Rice has students say things to themselves
like: "I'm going to do great," and, "It's going to be awesome."
"Basically, the attitude that we have at our drop zone is that everyone
must go, because if they don't, it's going to affect them for the
rest of their lives -- to look back at that all the time and know that they
failed," Rice says.
"Anyone who is willing to take the course is willing to jump -- as long
as you can bring them to the right level of focus and fear, they will go."
