Real-Life Math -- Solution

You are estimating how much it will cost you to clean all of the windows in Nancy's house. Using your fee schedule, this is what you calculate:

20 double hung windows cleaned on both sides
1 double hung window = 1 window
20 windows (5 ft x 2 ft) = regular size
Price for regular size, both sides = $7
20 x $7 = $140

10 casement windows
1 casement window = 2 windows
10 x 2 = 20 windows
Price for regular size, cleaned on both sides = $7
20 x $7 = $140

3 sliding doors
1 sliding door = 2 windows
3 x 2 = 6 windows
Price for large size, cleaned on both sides = $10
6 x $10 = $60

5 bay windows
1 bay window = 3 windows
5 x 3 = 15 windows
Price for large size, cleaned on only one side = $8
$8 x 15 = $120

Total = $140 + $140 + $60 + $120
Total = $460

You estimate that it will cost $460 to clean Nancy's windows.
