Real-Life Math

While being an editor doesn't often involve too much work with numbers, they do pop up sometimes! Paying writers by the word and figuring out how many words can fit on a page are a couple of examples. Another example is figuring out advertising space.

Many magazines have limits on how much advertising they want to run. Consider the following problem:

A magazine has a policy of only allowing 50 percent advertising. The paper is currently 32 pages, and you have 8 full-page ads, 8 half-page ads, 16 quarter-page ads and 8 eighth-page ads. Do you have too many ads for a 32-page magazine?
