Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You make the report.

You think to yourself, "If I let Tim get away with it this time, it will probably happen again. Maybe next time somebody will get hurt. Nipping it in the bud right now is the right thing to do."

Tim is not pleased with you. In fact, he is very angry. The parole officer calls Tim in for an interview and insists that Tim make an appointment to see an addictions counselor and attend a support group.

Tim continues to work. Next payday, he goes to a movie instead of going for drinks. Eventually, he gets over being angry with you.

"When a resident violates his parole, you are obligated to report it before the situation escalates," says Keith Baldwin. He is a residential counselor in a halfway house. "You want them to stop doing whatever it is that they are doing before somebody gets hurt or they return to their old lifestyle."
