Real-Life Communication

As with any new career, once you finish the training necessary, landing a job in your chosen field is often the hardest part. You must write a resume and then a cover letter to send with it.

The field in which a petroleum landman works is no different. In the past, many landmen were introduced to the field by family or friends. But as times change, so do the requirements. Now you must have education and experience to convince a prospective employer to hire you.

You have just received a bachelor's degree in geology. You would really like to go to work for the Petroleum Group, an international company. You spent summers during college working with WorldOil in their land administration offices.

You can apply for a petroleum landman position with the Petroleum Group by addressing your resume and cover letter to Stan Blaster, P.O. Box 4440, Tulsa, OK, 90909.

Write a cover letter, using the information above, to go along with your resume. Remember to be professional. Check for spelling and grammar, and talk about your interest in landing this job.
