Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You do nothing -- you don't want to bother the host.

Robert Wennekes is chair of the International Guild of Professional Butlers. He says generally, the butler would do nothing. "The butler doesn't want to upset the evening in any way and he definitely doesn't want to bother the host because he may be working to close a multimillion-dollar deal," says Wennekes.

He adds that this is a typical example he uses when interviewing butlers for positions in residences. Decision making is an important part of the job, as is realizing the consequences of your decisions. Thinking quickly is definitely a necessary skill to have as butlers can be faced with a wide variety of decisions everyday.
