You are the turfgrass manager for a championship golf course. Two months from now, this course will be hosting its first professional tournament. Your boss tells you to apply fertilizer to the golf course in preparation.

You have to be very careful because if you apply too little fertilizer, the grass will not be ready in time for the golf tournament. If you apply too much, you will "burn" the grass and you will have to re-sod the whole thing. Any one of these results will get you fired, so you better be careful.

You have to fertilize 40 acres of fairway. Each acre needs 10 pounds of active ingredient, and each pound of fertilizer contains 75 percent of the active ingredient. Based on this information, how many pounds of fertilizer do you need to cover 40 acres of fairway?
