Laser Printer Repair Technician

Real-Life Activities

Real-Life Math

Laser printer repair technicians pride themselves on being able to fix even the quirkiest of office machines. And before they leave, they also write up a bill.

While some companies have service plans that pay in advance for service calls, others pay as they go. That means the technicians must be able to figure out the charges before they head back out on the road.

You are a technician who has just completed a morning's worth of work at a local office. You fixed 3 printers, all with different problems:

Printer 1: Replace optical eye, clean, replace toner cartridge. Time: 45 minutes

Printer 2: Remove severely jammed paper and replace paper in-feed bin. Time: 30 minutes

Printer 3: Replace network cable wire (5 meters in length), replace toner cartridge. Time: 75 minutes

You'll need to know the cost of parts:

Optical eye: $150
Toner cartridges: $75 each
Paper in-feed bin: $95
Cable wire: $15 per meter

Then there is the labor cost. Your company charges $70 per hour for your time. Finally, you'll need to add on a 5 percent tax.

What will the final cost of this morning's work be?
