Insider Info

Paleontologists must adapt to a variety of working conditions. They spend many hours in the laboratory to "clean up" or process a sample. Yet fieldwork is also an important part of paleontology, and a love for the outdoors, camping and hiking is essential.

Fieldwork can involve rough or uncomfortable conditions. Some paleontologists may be involved in ocean drilling projects, requiring them to spend time at sea.

Earnings and employment information from the U.S. Department of Labor is not available for this field at this time.
