Artist and Repertoire Representative

Real-Life Activities

Real-Life Communication

Communication plays a huge role in the job of an A and R rep. As you are the person who reviews demo submissions, it is crucial that you have good verbal and written communication skills.

"Communication is huge in the industry," says rep David Quilico. "You constantly need to communicate with new artists, and a big part of the job is developing good public relations."

As an A and R rep, you collect and promote musical talent. You also represent songwriters, and are responsible for promoting their pieces to artists from around the world.

On the other hand, you may be working for an artist, and be responsible for choosing songs for their new record.

You have just received a newly composed piece of music that you feel would suit one of the world-class singers that is currently collecting pieces for her new record.

You are sure that the song has got the tune and lyrics that would top the charts across the world. You need to write a letter to the artist to inform her about this song. This letter must be convincing and informative.
