Real-Life Communication
You are just starting out in the automotive recycling business.
You don't know much about cars yet, but you do know that the more automotive
knowledge you have, the better your chances of success. So you never pass
up the opportunity to brush up on your knowledge of parts and are continually
reading auto books and magazines.
It is your lunch break. As you
take a seat in the staff room, you notice a large automotive parts book. You
open it up and start to skim. This is what you catch:
A radiator
is part of the car's cooling system. It allows water and other fluids to circulate
in order to cool the engine.
A spark plug is a small electrical
part that creates a spark within the combustion chamber of an engine. This
spark ignites the gas which in turn allows the engine to run.
A starter
is an electric motor that starts the engine up.
Back from your break,
you have a customer who doesn't know the name of the part he is looking for.
"It's that thing that sort of looks like a bolt. A little tiny thing. It's
for the engine. You know, it fires it up, gets it going," he describes.
What
is he looking for?
