Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You put the fridge shelf into production.

You decide to make the leap into the major manufacturing market with your idea. You do some research and pitch your idea to large fridge manufacturing companies. You're unhappy to find that they aren't interested in your new shelf.

You consider manufacturing the part yourself, but soon see that would be very difficult and expensive.

"If you have a product that needs a large refrigeration manufacturing plant, it will be difficult if not impossible for you to start out," says inventor Ronald Riley.

He also adds that large companies such as car companies and telecommunications companies are generally more difficult to approach with ideas that may change the way they produce their goods.

"There are a lot of reasons to reject an idea," he says. "You just have to keep coming up with new ideas."
