Real-Life Decision Making

You're the production manager of an outdoor festival. A storm is approaching, which could pose a safety hazard for your performer. Your first thought is to cancel the show.

Bad weather can be a problem for outdoor shows. "It becomes a much more involved issue when the promoter has bought no weather insurance," says Ernie Yezzi. He faced this very situation when working as a production manager.

If you cancel the show, the audience will be disappointed. Because the promoter will lose a lot of money, he might never hire you again.

But if the show goes on, the performer could be in danger. Wind can blow rigging down, and rain and lightning pose the risk of electrocution.
