Real-Life Math

John Metzger is a media analyst. He says sometimes people get into the field simply because they don't like math.

Math isn't really needed in this job. However, many media analysts run their own businesses. In that case, they need basic bookkeeping skills.

"As a business owner, I must know basically how to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and make financial business decisions," says Metzger.

Your accountant charges you $60 an hour. You decide keep your receipts and try to do some simple math on your own.

You have the following receipts:

$45.92 for a computer program
$32.66 for printer paper
$56 for 1 dinner
$99.36 for another dinner
$40.32 for envelopes
$126 for postage
$87.32 for lunch

How much did you spend on office supplies and entertainment?
