Real-Life Math -- Solution

First you have to figure out your meal expenses. Your allowance is $30 for breakfast, $50 for lunch, and $75 for dinner, for a total of $155 a day. For 7 days, you are allowed to spend $1,085.

Monday:$50
Tuesday:$50 + $60 = $110
Wednesday:$30 + $50 + $75 = $155
Thursday:$30 + $50 + $75 = $155
Friday:$28 + $50 + $75 = $153
Saturday:$20
Sunday:$40

Total: $50 + $110 + $155 + $155 + $153 + $20 + $40 = $683

Next you must determine how much you spent on transportation.

Monday:$30
Tuesday:$35
Wednesday:$32
Thursday:$40
Friday:$30
Saturday:$0
Sunday:$30

Total cost of travel: $30 + $35 + $32 + $40 + $30 + $0 + $30 = $197

In addition, you spent $15 on a disposable camera.

Estimated total reimbursement = $683 (meals) + $197 (travel costs) + $15 (expenses)
Estimated total reimbursement = $895

The government owes you $895 (assuming you have receipts for all these things).
