Additional Information

There are a variety of learning options available for the study of taxidermy: books, videos, workshops or an apprenticeship. Several schools dedicated to taxidermy offer programs lasting eight to 16 weeks. Students can expect to learn skinning, bird and fish mounting, hide preparation, rug making, sculpting, form building, shoulder mounts and finish work.

Community colleges also offer a number of courses. Most states bestow certification based on a required number of hours spent in the taxidermy discipline.
