You are a dolphin researcher in Honolulu, Hawaii. You're studying the intellectual abilities of bottlenose dolphins. Among other things, your laboratory has found that dolphins can understand artificial languages.

Your work has been the focus of a recent magazine article. The magazine has thousands of readers around the world. You hope the article will attract attention and support for your research.

Instead, you receive letters that argue that the captivity of dolphins is cruel and inhumane. The letter writers say that all research should take place in the wild where the animals' natural lives will not be disrupted.

You appreciate the concerns of the letter writers. In many ways you agree with them, but the issue isn't as easy to solve as they think. The dolphins were born in captivity. Before releasing them into the wild, you would need to develop a program of release for the dolphins to prepare them for life in the ocean.

Write a letter to the editor of the magazine where the article appeared. Your letter should address readers' concerns about dolphins in captivity.
