Additional Information

No formal education is required to become a music copyist. But members of the field feel that at least an undergraduate degree in a related field is necessary to have a good understanding of the field.

"If composers and orchestrators never made mistakes, a low level of music education would be sufficient," says copyist Victor Sagerquist. "But a bachelor's degree in music is my recommendation, and special training in music is a big plus. Learn the basics of music theory and orchestration. Special ear training will help, also."
